Speed FriendingBack by popular demand! Previous Rapid Friending events were hugely popular, so we are trying it again.

Note, Rapid Friending is not speed dating, but a respectful way to build connections with fellow travelers and compatible minds. Folk you can hang with, talk to, be solid with.

Why? Because relationships are tough in California. Because building friendship is a slog. Because people don't always connect with neighbors and don't acknowledge strangers. The effort of acquaintance, or simple shyness, is a barrier comparable to electrified razor wire. Here's your chance to get through it without blood loss or burns.

The genial, lovable moderator will provide a list of question ideas, match you to a partner, and set a timer for some minutes of free-form chat. Hear a story; tell yours. Ask questions; answer some; bat ideas around. Then everyone will change conversation partners and do it again. OK, it's a bit like speed dating but without the mush and baggage of romance. Give it a try. WCGW?

Fred Rogers---yes, that Mr. Rogers---said it's important when people arrive and it's important when people leave. That's why well mannered people strive to greet arrivals, and later give them a warm send-off. You know how good it feels to help people feel good, so here's an opportunity to practice and maybe even teach somebody how to do it. Are you in? Yes? Then tell Susan (the lovable moderator) that you'd like to help welcome people as they arrive for the meeting.

The anti-social are also welcome of course. Many freethinkers have a slight dusting of shyness or misanthropy, and that's OK. You can sit aside and watch others interact, until you feel comfortable enough to jump in.

BTW, we suggest a (totally voluntary) donation of $3 per person to help pay the rent at Reason Center. Reason Center is the ONLY venue around dedicated to freethought, agnosticism, non-theism, non-belief, rationality, skepticism, atheism, Humanism, and other flavors of non-religiosity, open to you and any friends you'd like to bring. Look for the big plastic donation jug labeled "Reason Center Donations" (it'll be at the snack table) and stuff the bucks in there. Even humble SacFAN has to pay to use Reason Center. Can't donate? Come anyway. The important thing is for you to be there so you can meet your new friends. This is truly an upright group of people.

Reason Center welcomes donations. Crumpled dollars, and food too! Bring a snack or beverage to share if you will. Friends get hungry. Nom-nom.
