Presenter Anne M. Rewell of the CSUS Renaissance Society will tell us about the Underground Railroad, and explore the routes utilized by escaping enslaved people in the Antibellum South, as well as those who collaborated to assist, the secret networks, the waystations and rest stops. The Railroad (not a literal railroad) brought together a diverse group of people in the fight against slavery and slavers. From the deep south, the journey to Canada and sometimes to Mexico (yes Mexico abolished slavery in 1937, and if you didn't know, shame on you for sleeping in Mrs. Grundy's history class). Perilous for all involved, it requiring courage and ingenuity, and sometimes pretty some fast thinking.
